Claude connector
Connect Claude to Datachef so it can explore your tables, query across systems, check syncs and work with your models.
The Datachef connector gives Claude a set of tools to work with your synced data and saved models. Because everything is already in one place in Datachef, a question that spans Salesforce, Marketo and your product database is one SQL query. Claude doesn't have to stitch rows together from three separate connections.
It works in Claude on the web, desktop and mobile, and in Claude Code.
Set it up
- In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and add Datachef.
- Sign in to Datachef.
- Tick the workspaces Claude may use. Tick Allow changes too if you want Claude to change sync settings or save models.
- Choose Allow access. You're returned to Claude, connected.
If you don't have data connected yet, load the sample dataset and try it on that.
What Claude can do
- Explore: list your tables grouped by connection, see their columns and your team's notes on them, and read your saved models.
- Query: run read-only SQL against your tables and models, one
SELECTat a time. - Check syncs: see what each connection syncs, how often, and whether recent syncs worked.
- Trace lineage: see what a model is built on and what depends on it.
- Make changes, if you allow it: turn a table's sync on or off, change sync settings or columns, start a sync, and save or update models.
Tools lists every tool in detail.
What Claude can't do
- See your credentials. Connection credentials stay in Datachef.
- Write to your data. Queries are read-only and go through the same checks as the SQL editor.
- See other workspaces. Claude only sees the workspaces you ticked.
- Change anything you haven't allowed. Changes need Allow changes, and even then Claude can only do what your own role allows. A viewer's connection can't change anything, whatever is ticked.
- Overwrite a colleague's work. Updating a model needs the version Claude last read. If someone has saved since, the update is refused.
Seeing what Claude did
Every query Claude runs and every model it saves is marked via Claude in Datachef, so you can tell it apart from work done in the app. Organization owners and admins can filter query activity by where it came from.
Good questions to ask
Questions that span more than one system are where it's most useful:
- "Which Marketo programs sourced the opportunities we closed this quarter, and what's the average deal size for each?"
- "Of the customers who signed in the last six months, which haven't logged in since onboarding?"
- "Is the Salesforce connection up to date? Did any sync fail this week?"
- "Save that query as a model called
pipeline_by_region."
The last one matters most. Once a good answer is saved as a model, the next person, or the next agent, gets the same number.
Disconnecting
Remove Datachef under Settings → Connectors in Claude. Disconnecting doesn't change anything in your workspace: models Claude saved and syncs it set up stay as they are.
