AI agents

Tools

Every tool the Datachef connector gives an AI agent, what it does, and what it needs.

These are the tools an AI agent gets through the Claude connector. You don't call them yourself: ask Claude a question in a sentence, and it picks the right ones.

Exploring

ToolWhat it does
list_workspacesThe workspaces the connection may read, with how many tables and models each has. Usually the first call.
list_tablesSynced tables grouped by connection, with each table's SQL name, source, row count, last sync and description
describe_tableA table's columns, types and your team's notes
list_modelsSaved models, with their descriptions
get_modelA model's SQL, description, current version and version history
get_lineageWhat a model reads, what reads it, and which tabs use it. Owners and admins also see how often it's queried.

Querying

ToolWhat it does
run_queryRuns one read-only SELECT in DuckDB's dialect. Results are capped, and marked as truncated when there's more.
validate_sqlChecks that SQL parses and would be allowed, without running it

Connections and syncs

ToolWhat it does
list_connectionsEach connection's kind, status, synced-table count and non-secret settings
describe_connectionEvery table a connection offers, whether it's synced and under what name, its mode, cursor and schedule, and its last and next sync
describe_source_tableEvery column a source table offers and which are synced, its primary key, cursor options and the recommended sync settings
get_sync_statusQueued and running syncs, and recent runs with their outcome, row counts and errors

Query activity

For organization owners and admins only.

ToolWhat it does
list_query_activityThe log of queries and questions, page by page
summarize_query_activityUsage by person, kind and source, error rate, the most-used tables, models and questions, and the slowest and failing queries, over up to 365 days

Making changes

These need Allow changes ticked when you connected, and the Editor role in the workspace. Ask Claude to confirm before it makes a change.

ToolWhat it does
set_table_syncingTurns a table's sync on or off. Turning it off keeps the rows already synced.
set_sync_settingsSets a table's mode, cursor and schedule (an interval of at least 5 minutes, a cron expression, or manual), or applies the recommended settings
set_synced_columnsAdds or removes synced columns
sync_tableSyncs one table now
sync_connectionSyncs every table in a connection now
create_modelSaves a SELECT as a new model with a lower-snake-case name
update_modelChanges a model's SQL, name or description, with an optional note for its history. Refused if the model was saved by someone else since Claude last read it.
