Key concepts
Organizations, workspaces, connections, tables, models and tabs, and how they relate.
Organization
Your company's account. People join an organization by verified email domain or by invitation, and it holds one or more workspaces. Organization admins manage people and workspaces, and owners also manage sign-in and SSO. See people and roles.
Workspace
A self-contained set of connections, tables, models and analysis. A query can only see tables in its own workspace. Workspaces are either:
- Shared: everyone in the organization can at least view it.
- Private: only people who've been granted access can open it. Organization admins can see that a private workspace exists, and can delete it, but can't read it.
Connection
One source system, such as a Salesforce org, a Marketo instance or a Postgres database. A connection has two names:
- A name, which is fixed and is the schema its tables are queried through. For example,
salesforce. - A label, which is the display name and can be changed. For example, Salesforce (production).
Table
One object or table from a source, synced into Datachef. Each table has its own sync mode, schedule and column selection. See sync settings.
Tables are queried as <connection name>.<table>. For example, if your Salesforce connection is named salesforce, its Opportunity object is queried as salesforce.opportunity.
Model
A named, versioned SQL query. You query a model by its bare name, like a table: SELECT * FROM active_customers. Models can build on other models. They're how a team agrees on what "qualified pipeline" or "active customer" means, and the agent and any connected AI tools use them instead of inventing their own definitions. See models.
Tab
Your work in progress on the Agent and SQL pages. Tabs are saved on the server, so they're still there after a reload or in a new browser. A tab is private until you publish it to the workspace. See tabs and sharing.
