Connecting data

Salesforce

Connect a Salesforce production or sandbox org, and choose which objects to sync.

Choose how to sign in

The connection form offers several ways to authenticate. Use whichever your Salesforce admin prefers.

Username and security token

The simplest option. You need:

FieldNotes
UsernameThe Salesforce user Datachef reads as. Datachef can see whatever this user can see.
Password
Security tokenSalesforce emails this to you when you reset it under your personal settings.
This is a sandbox orgTick for a sandbox. Sign-in then goes to test.salesforce.com.
Login URLOptional. Your My Domain URL, if your org requires it.
API versionDefaults to v61.0.

Consumer key and secret

Signs in through a connected app that you create in Salesforce. Fill in the username, password, the connected app's consumer key and consumer secret, and the security token. You can leave the security token blank only if the org trusts the IP address Datachef connects from.

Connected app refresh token

For orgs that issue a refresh token to a connected app. You need the Instance URL, consumer key, consumer secret and refresh token.

Use a dedicated integration user

Whichever method you choose, we recommend a dedicated, read-only integration user, rather than a person's own login. Its permissions decide which objects and fields Datachef can sync, and it won't break when someone leaves or changes their password.

Choose objects

After the connection is saved, every object the user can query is listed. History, Share, Feed, ChangeEvent and Tag objects are left out. Turn on the objects you need, such as Account, Contact, Lead, Opportunity, Campaign and CampaignMember.

Each object is queried as <connection name>.<object>, for example salesforce.opportunity.

SystemModstamp changes whenever Salesforce changes a record, including changes made by the system, so it catches updates that LastModifiedDate misses. See sync settings.

Sandboxes

Add a sandbox as its own connection with This is a sandbox org ticked, and give it its own name, such as salesforce_sandbox. Its tables sit next to production's: salesforce_sandbox.opportunity and salesforce.opportunity.
